Telescopic channel

There are a number of different types of wheelchair ramps available. Folding wheelchair ramps, in particular, allow wheelchair users and mobility scooter users to increase their accessibility. Let's take a look at a few and what they are primarily used for.

The first type is threshold ramps. As the name indicates these ramps have been designed so any type of threshold or raised landing can be easily accessed. Aluminum threshold ramps are made of high-quality material. Because of that, they are lightweight and extremely easy to handle.

You can use the ramp to facilitate the transition from one area to another by placing it against a doorway or a raised surface. These ramps are meant to be used for wheelchairs and scooters.

Fold them up and take them along so you can set them up in a doorway as needed. Step ramps eliminate the need for lifting awkward, heavy mobility chairs over thresholds.

Track ramps are used with either power or manual wheelchairs. Telescopic channels are standard on most ramps. When extended these channels assist in moving the wheelchair over moderate elevation changes such as steps or curbs.

A track ramp is easy to store since it collapses when the telescopic channels are retracted. It is easy to bring them along so that you have them on hand when needed. They are lightweight, so you can bring them along easily.

Other types of folding wheelchair ramps include single fold and multi-fold ramps. These are designed for loading and unloading wheelchairs and scooters into and out of vehicles, in addition to uses for ramps already mentioned.

The most common type of ramp is the single-fold ramp. It only needs to be unfolded to be used. There is no assembly required first. Then lean it up against the opening into the vehicle you are using and roll the mobility scooter or wheelchair up or down.

Those single-fold ramps that come with built-in handles are easy to carry around and just as easy to store. They are available in a variety of sizes and materials. Ramps can be used almost anywhere a ramp is needed.

Ramps with multiple folds are known to be quite versatile. Because of their design they can be used where longer elevation changes are called for. They are strong and durable and are designed to handle any class of wheelchairs or mobility scooters.

Although heavier, multi-fold ramps are also easy to transport especially those with a handle built-in. Some come apart for transport and storage so the extra weight is distributed over individual pieces.

With the variety of folding wheelchair ramps available, you are sure to find one to suit your needs.
